AT THE BUNKERS DE CAN BARÓ

When having done their research prior to Barcelona, they thought they had all the great places nailed to their bucket list. You know, Park Güell, Sagrada Familia, Montserrat...

So when Dani in the lobby said he liked to give them tips on what to in the city, they said yes just to be polite.
...Yes, the heroines of this story can be a tad too smug sometimes... Because Dani of course had a whole list of off-the-tourist-track things to do, like the hidden bar behind the sandwich shop Pastrami and the Bunkers de Can Baró.

Bunkers? Like in the war? The girls were intrigued, and accepted his google maps-print outs, adding it to their checklist for the trip.

Then time flew and they got caught up in every mosaicfilled moment (and Barcelona has loads of them!) so when sun started to set and they were quite exhaused from all the house-looking in Park Güell, they consider just skipping the bunkers all together, even though it was just a short bus ride away.

But Felicia does really love heights. At least as long as she was having solid ground under her feet while being up on one, which this qualified to, so she prompted they'd go anyway. just for a teeny tiny bit, pleeeeeease, and Julia caved.

So they jumped off at Ctra del Carmel - Mühlberg, a very short ride from the park's entrence, and started walking upwards, up in what seemed like a residential area. Then they walked some more and some more up and they happened upon this view

and it was magnificent, but it was not the right place.
They stood still perplexed looking for a while, then, a woman with.. seven dogs? or something like that approched them, speaking in only spanish.

"El bunkers?" She started, followed by a stream of words they understood maybe a third of. They nodded and answered "Si" and "Muchas gracias!" and found the right path by simply reading her body language.

Then the road got steeper and they started to climb the mountain only by sheer willpower (Well, Felicia did. Julia was actually more than fit enough for this kind of altitude training. But let's keep to "they", shall we?)

OK to be honest, the mountain wasn't that high. Just a couple of steps and then they were up. I just had to turn up the suspence a bit for the sake of storytelling.

ANYHOO. Up they were. And again, it was magnificent.

Needless to say, after seeing such fab pictures, they were very happy that they took the detour. Later that night, they indulged in strawberry mojitos and looked at the pictures and were very, very happy with the day.
